Language

The official currency is the Cambodian Riel (KHR), but US dollars are widely accepted. ATMs are available in cities and tourist destinations. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants.

Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not expected. For good service, a small tip to guides, drivers, and restaurant staff is welcome.

Visas
Tourist visas are required for most visitors. E-visa is available online for stays up to 30 days. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

What to pack
Light, breathable clothes for the tropical climate. A hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, and modest attire for temple visits (shoulders and knees covered).

Public Holidays
Major holidays include Khmer New Year (April), Pchum Ben (Sept/Oct), Water Festival (Nov), and Independence Day (Nov 9).

Shops: 8am–8pm daily. Banks: 8am–3pm (Mon–Fri). Markets open early and close by evening.

Rules of good conduct
– Dress modestly when visiting temples.
– Remove shoes before entering homes or pagodas.
– Avoid touching people on the head.
– Use both hands when giving or receiving something.

Climate
Cambodia has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons. The dry season runs from November to April (best for travel), while the rainy season lasts from May to October. November to February is the most pleasant time with cooler and drier weather.

Festivals in Cambodia

1. Khmer New Year (Chaul Chnam Thmey) – mid-April
