Western provinces are also known as the Mekong Delta. The full name must be southwestern but commonly called as the west. This area includes 12 provinces and 1 city under the government control: An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Long An, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long and Can Tho.
When should you come to visit Mekong Delta?

How to get there?
Airway: In the West, the largest airport is Can Tho airport, you can go to Can Tho airport and then take a bus to other provinces.
By car: The most common way to visit the West from Ho Chi Minh City is by private van or coach.
Motorbike: If coming from Saigon, you can choose a motorbike. By this way, you can stop arbitrarily and avoid wasting time or missing places throughout the journey.
